EFCC: Politician Decries Clamour for Ohakim Arrest

A  call by some youths in Imo State to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest the immediate past-governor of the state, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, and former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Chief Goodluck Nanah Opiah, has been described as idiotic and a ploy by the serving government of the state to distract attention from non-performance, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Sam Ejiogu, has said.

Ejiogu told THISDAY on telephone that instead of the present administration of Chief Rochas Okorocha to concentrate on how to bring positive leadership that could impart meaningfully on the people, he was busy organising some disgruntled and jobless youths to stage-manage a protest at the Government House, Owerri, against the former governor.

He said it was the same 10,000 youths that were employed by the former governor and were sacked by the present government in a most ignorable manner that were hired to protest, adding that no Imo citizen would want EFCC to arrest Ohakim because “he worked for Imo people”.

The politician said: “There is no basis for such call because we all know that the former governor (Ohakim)’s problem was not non-performance or alleged misappropriation of public funds, but some people believed that he was arrogant.”

According to him, being perceived as arrogant, does not in any way amount to misappropriation and embezzlement of public funds, even as there are monumental projects that were established by the former governor which the present government ought to complement for the benefit of Imo people.

He urged the present government to stop over-heating the polity while advising the Imo people to remain calm and continue to pray for good leadership.
