Matt Damon delays fundraiser for Anthony Weiner

Oscar-winning actor Matt Damon may not be abandoning Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., in the wake of his recent Twitter scandal, but he may be trying to put a little distance between himself and the shamed politician.

Damon had been scheduled to host a fundraiser for Weiner in Manhattan on June 20, but it now has been postponed, but not cancelled, according to New York magazine. A new date hasn't been announced.

"It's going to be postponed now because of all this," Damon told the magazine, referring to Weiner's admission Monday that he sent explicit pictures of to several young women. "Look, I really support his politics ...Anybody who fights for the working class and the middle class, I'll help in any way I can."

The 40-year-old actor, known for playing Jason Bourne in the action thrillers and for such films as "Good Will Hunting," "The Departed" and "The Talented Mr. Reipley," has been active in Democratic causes in the past, as has his Boston pal Ben Affleck.
