Blues Brothers Star Alan Rubin Loses Cancer Battle

The Blues Brothers trumpet player Alan Rubin has lost his battle with lung cancer in New York.

The 68-year-old musician, nicknamed Mr. Fabulous, was a member of the Saturday Night Live house band before Snl regulars John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd snapped him up as their bandmate for the Blues Brothers movie and subsequent live act.

A big noise in the music world, Rubin was considered on of the best session horn players and he performed with James Taylor, Billy Joel, Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones, among others, according to the Los Angeles Times.

A one-time Juilliard School of Music student, Rubin first found fame in his 20s as singer Robert Goulet's trumpeter.

He appeared in 1980's The Blues Brothers and its 2000 sequel, Blues Brothers 2000
