According to TMZ, Randy suffered a heart attack while driving his Jeep and lost control of his car, crashing head-on into a tree. His brother, Lanny Poffo, confirmed the news of Savage's death.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the wrestler was transported to Largo Medical Center where he died from injuries sustained in the accident. It's unclear whether his death was the result of the heart attack, the collision, or a combination of both.
Randy’s wife was a passenger, but luckily she survived the crash with minor injuries.
Savage held 20 championship belts during his professional wrestling career; and became known as the spokesman for Slim Jim beef jerky after his wrestling days ended.
Vince McMahon has released a statement on the death of Randy "Macho Man" Savage calling him one of the "greatest Superstars of his time."
The WWE statement reads, "WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of one of the greatest Superstars of his time, Randy Poffo, aka Randy “Macho Man” Savage."
"Poffo was under contract with WWE from 1985 to 1993 and held both the WWE and Intercontinental Championships. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends. We wish a speedy recovery to his wife Lynn. Poffo will be greatly missed by WWE and his fans."
