Woman arraigned for dousing another with 'pepper-water'

A woman was arraigned in Lagos yesterday for allegedly pouring a mixture of water and ground pepper on another woman, after cutting her with a razor.

The accused, Obialo Eberedu (34), was charged before the Chief Magistrate's Court in Surulere, but pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge of assault, breach of peace and causing grievous bodily harm.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Olaide, told the court that Eberedu allegedly poured the mixture on one Miss Ijeoma Nwaimo on April 19 at No.12, Olaitan Street, Kilo, Surulere.

“The accused used a razor to cut one Miss Ijeoma Nwimo on her back and did same to Nwimo’s brother, Ugochukwu. The accused also engaged in an argument with two others. While she beat one Miss Nonye Godson with her fist, she gave one Miss Tina Sunday a bite on her left chest,” Olaide added.

He said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 249 (d), 335, 355 and 351 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

Chief Magistrate Abiola Soladoye granted Eberedu bail in the sum of N100,000  with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till May 25 for further hearing.
