Why I want to lead Senate again —Mark

The President of the Senate, David Mark, said, on Wednesday, in Abuja that he desired to lead the new Senate so as to complete the process of making the nation’s body of laws completely people-oriented.

Mark, who spoke  while his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu was being conferred with the Nigeria Union of Journalists Legislative Excellence Award, said that the experience garnered by him and his deputy in the outgoing Senate would afford them the opportunity to properly guide the process that would yield Nigerians  a truly people-oriented  body of laws.

Mark’s deputy, Senator Ekweremadu, also said on the occasion that the constitution amendment process would continue until Nigerians were guaranteed laws that are people-oriented.The Senate president stated that since the outgoing National Assembly had been able to amend the constitution successfully, the new National Assembly would build on that to carry out a holistic check on the nation’s body of laws.

He said that while he (Mark) would contest the position of Senate President in the next Senate, his partner and running mate, Ekweremadu would contest the position of Deputy Senate president.

He stated: “When I indicated my interest to contest for the presidency of the Senate, this time round, I did not hesitate to ask him to come again as the Deputy President of the Senate and I believe that with the joint ticket, we will succeed.”
