UN Secretary-General arrives Nigeria

United Nations Secretary Ban Ki-moon arrived in Nigeria today for a two-day visit to discuss regional peace, health and sanitation issues with the country’s officials.

Nigerian Foreign Minister Odein Ajumogobia received Ban at the Abuja international airport. Ban arrived from Ivory Coast, where he attended the inauguration of Alassane Ouattara as president yesterday.

Ban will meet with President Goodluck Jonathan, head of the electoral agency and governors of the country’s 36 states, according to an official program released by the UN office in Nigeria.

He will also travel to Ethiopia and France from Nigeria, according to a statement on the UN website.

Ban’s visit is his first trip to Nigeria since he assumed office as Secretary-General of the UN, 1 Jan 2007.
