God has not decreed me dead now- Nzeribe

SENATOR Francis Arthur Nzeribe Wednesday denied reports that there was anxiety with regard to his health, just as he said that he is hale and hearty.

According to him, the report was politically motivated against the backdrop that a particular medium had reported severally that he was dead.

The Oguta-born politician also described comments by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, of Cross River State, Mike Igini on the politics and voting style of the Oguta people as alarming and disturbing.
In a statement signed by his Special Assistant, Public Affairs, Emeka Oraetoka, Nzeribe noted that it was sad for a newspaper, (not Vanguard) to report such a story on his state of health.

Iam hale and hearty, not dead. I pray God to give the entire staff of the newspaper (not Vanguard), which is hell-bent in seeing me dead despite God’s intention to the contrary, long life and good health. It is my wish that God will make it possible for you people to attend my 90th birthday on earth.

“While it is not my style to question the newspaper’s idea of investigative journalism, I must hasten to add that this recurring rumour of my death in the same medium is politically motivated. The manner of presentation of this latest report on my health speaks volumes of the level of mischief of the writer.

“The coincidence of my death rumour and the unguarded statement made by Mr. Mike Igini, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, of Cross River State, in Sun Rise programme on Channel Television, 10th May, 2011 where he cast aspersions on the people of Oguta, that ‘Oguta people have never voted before, that the tradition there is for Nzeribe to write results anytime there is election there’, in justification of a deliberate effort by anti-democratic forces to disenfranchise and cut off the desire of the people to select who should rule them as others in Imo State; is rather alarming and disturbing.

“It is my sincere hope that the newspaper is not in league with anti-democratic forces in Imo State in their desperate task of giving the Nzeribes political bad name in order to hang him.”
