6,000 screened for breast cancer in Edo

THE Edo State Government, Thursday, said that over 6,000 people have been screened for breast cancer in the last two years, adding that when completed, the state of the art cancer hospital being constructed at the Benin Central Hospital, will go a long way in detecting the ailment, early.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who stated this while declaring open, the 1st Family Doctor’s Day, organised by the Edo State Chapter of the Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria, EDOSOFPON, expressed the desire of the state government to ensure quality health care for the people of the state. He also  disclosed that its target was to join the Federal Government to eradicate polio in the state by 2012.

Oshiomhole who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry, Health, Dr Peter Ugbodaga, said government had renovated the 34 general hospitals in the state and provided a 120-bed space with modern facility at the Benin Central Hospital to render better services  than what was obtained in  Federal Government hospitals in the state.
