Russell Crowe Is “Very Sorry” for Circumcison Twitter Comments

Russell Crowe, the Oscar-winning Australian actor, has apologised for attacking the practise of male circumcision. Russell Crowe's original comments were triggered by the expectant parent of a baby-boy who asked the actor on Twitter, "Do you think I should get him circumstanced?", reports the Associated Press.

Crowe responded to the enquiry almost immediately, saying, "Circumcision is barbaric and stupid. Who are you to correct nature? Is it real that God requires a donation of foreskin?" He later noted, "Babies are perfect". After a backlash from certain media outlets, the actor's comments appear to have vanished from his Twitter page, being replaced by an apology that read, "I have a deep and abiding love for all people of all nationalities, I'm very sorry that I have said things on here that have caused distress".

In another post, he declared, "My personal beliefs aside I realize that some will interpret this debate as me mocking the rituals and traditions of others. I am very sorry". Crowe's representative also released a statement on behalf of the actor, saying, "I am deeply sorry for any distress I have caused by my insensitive remarks". Circumcision has become a hotly debated topic in the United States over the past few years. San Francisco voters face a proposal on the November ballot to ban the practise on male children under the age of 18.

Russell Crowe is currently working on the forthcoming action-movie 'The Man with the Iron Fists', with Jamie Chung and Lucy Liu. The movie, set in feudal China, follows the story of a blacksmith who makes weapons for a small village.
