One Of The Inspiration Behind Stand Up To Cancer Naija" Laura Ziskin" dies at 61

Across Hollywood, stars are reacting to the the death of Laura Ziskin, the Hollywood producer behind such hit movies as Pretty Woman and the Spider-Man franchise.

The 61-year-old died yesterday at her home in Los Angeles after a seven-year battle with breast cancer.

Superbad star Jonah Hill took to Twitter after learning of Ziskin's death: 'Incredibly sad news about Laura Ziskin passing away. She was a special, sweet, and talented person.'

He also urged his followers to donate money to the charity Stand Up To Cancer with the message: 'Please support @SU2C in her honour.'

Ziskin, a Los Angeles native, also produced The Academy Award winning comedy As Good As It Gets and No Way Out.

In a 2002 book called Women Who Run the Show, Ziskin talked about the long-term impact of women in high positions and the importance of their work.

'Movies are arguably the most influential, important medium in the world. They have a tremendous cultural impact,' she said.

'Because women are now making movies, then women's ideas, philosophy, point of view will seep into that culture. And that's never happened in history.'

'Ever, ever, ever. We can't even see the impact of that yet.'

In addition to her accomplishments in the movie business, the three-time Emmy nominee was also the first woman to solely produced the Academy Awards telecast in 2002.  She produced the show in 2007, as well.

Ziskin was also the driving force behind the annual TV special, Stand Up To Cancer. She is survived by her husband, screenwriter Alvin Sargent.

Actress Dana Delany also took to Twitter to express her condolences: 'Very sad about the death of Laura Ziskin. She said her plan was to cure cancer and I believe her.'

As Laura's daughter Julia once told a magazine writer, "Cancer f-–d with the wrong woman," and she was right. Laura let nothing – not even a little chemo – stand in the way of the cause. Standing up to a disease that would ultimately, just nine months later, take her life
