The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, who briefed newsmen, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, said the identities of those behind the abduction had been uncovered.
Asekd by newsmen to give the names, he said it would hamper investigations.
Meanwhile, he gave the names of the kidnapped corps members as Mrs Fase Fumilayo, Chinenye Ejiogu, Nkechi Nwaze, Yisuf Olumide and Vivian Ekwanya.
He said the kidnappers had dropped their ransom from N100 million.
Assuring that security operatives will secure their release soon, the state Police boss said his men were already on top of the situation.
It will be recalled that the five corps members, four females and one male, were taken hostage on their way from a school in Omademi community, where they had gone to inspect a library project they built for the public school in the area as part of their Community Development Service.
The Police boss also displayed seven AK 47 riffles, 500 live ammunition and 50 five magazines recovered from a gang of three, which specialises in killing policemen in the state. The Commissioner, who said the gang was smashed at their hideout in Aluu, the host community of the University of Port Harcourt, added that the riffles recovered from the gang belonged to some of the policemen they murdered in cold blood.
