The 37-year-old star plays Vince's best friend and manager Eric in the HBO series, and he will be stepping behind the camera to direct the seventh episode in the eighth series.
According to TV Guide magazine, the episode will air in the US on September 4 this year and the finale will be shown a week later on September 11.
Connolly also directed the penultimate episode in the seventh season.
