Lindsay Lohan starts house arrest

Lindsay Lohan has turned herself into jail to get fitted with an ankle bracelet and start a stint of house arrest.

The LA Sheriff's Department booking sheet shows that Lindsay, listed as being 24, 5ft 7in and with red hair, was 'arrested' as she turned herself into Lynwood Jail at 5:02am.

She was then fitted with an electronic ankle bracelet and left the jail just 56 minutes later and headed home where she is now under house arrest until the end of June.

'She is now confined to the interior premises of her home at all times,' LA Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

Lohan had been sentenced to four months in jail after she pleaded no contest to stealing a $2,500 necklace, but jail overcrowding issues and the fact that she's a non-violent offender made her eligible for house arrest.

Whitmore declined to say whether any exceptions would allow Lohan to leave her home. But he previously stated that her ankle bracelet will not be detecting for drugs or alcohol.

Lohan is also serving 480 hours of community service – mostly at a downtown women's shelter – and is expected to serve janitorial duty at the LA County morgue.
