I didn’t pay any judge to influence trial, says Igbinedion

Former Edo State Governor, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, yesterday, denied the report credited to the Chairman of the  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,  EFCC, Mrs.Farida Waziri , that he allegedly paid  N10 billion to a judge in order to frustrate his ongoing trial.

The former governor in a statement  by his counsel, Mr. Olusegun  Odubela, said the publication was  embarrassing and scandalous.

“The allegation made by the EFCC boss, Mrs. Warizi  existed in her  imagination. Our client  did not and  will not take any take step  to subvert the cause of justice. We  challenge the EFCC  to produce the so called petition against the judge,” Odubela said.

He added,  “it will be in the interest of the media to desist from “made-belief” information emanating from the commission as  we have the  instruction of our client to clear his name in the court of law, hence a retraction of the story is advised.”

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court sitting in Benin, Edo State, will on May 31, rule on the preliminary objection  by Igbinedion, challenging  Federal Government’s move to trial him twice on the same allegation as argued by his lead counsel, Chief Rickey Tarfa, SAN.
