Head of IMF picked out of lineup by sexual assault accuser

A maid at a New York hotel who said she was sexually assaulted by the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has identified the 62-year-old Frenchman from a police lineup, news reports said Monday.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, previously considered a contender in next year's presidential elections, was arrested Saturday after a hotel maid claimed he assaulted her the same day when she entered his room to clean it.

The New York police also obtained a warrant to take DNA samples in their search for evidence of a struggle between the suspect and the 32-year-old cleaner.
Strauss-Kahn was due to appear in court Monday, his lawyer told reporters outside a New York City court building.

Asked how his client was, William Taylor said Strauss-Kahn was tired but doing fine.

Strauss-Kahn had spent Saturday night in an East Harlem police station cell after spending Friday night in a 3,000-dollar Manhattan hotel suite where the attack was alleged to have taken place.

The maid was reportedly treated for minor injuries in hospital.

The hearing was originally scheduled for Sunday but postponed until Monday to allow forensic tests to be carried out, Taylor said.

In a statement, the IMF on Sunday declined comment on the case except to say that the Washington-based lender for countries in financial crises «remains fully functioning and operational.»

Observers of French politics said the case has thrown the race for the May 2012 polls into turmoil. A spokesman for the ruling Union for a Popular Majority said the arrest of the Socialist Party economist and politician was 'humiliating for France.'

  1. d only problem with popular ppl and lineups is dat ur already familiar with the face or if ur framing the person, u can easily look them up online. im not sayin he isnt guilty but i hope dey hve something stronger to pin him with, if hes indeed guilty. and as dey say, absolute power corrupts absolutely.....i dnt know wat makes all these rich and powerful men fall into these sex scandals except they get deluded that their money and power can buy dem everythin
